JUNIOR JU JITSU

Teaching children skills for life

EAMAC Junior Ju Jitsu club is a friendly club run by fully qualified BJJA coaches.

Children can start aged 7 and usually progress to the senior mat around the age of 14. We train in a very friendly environment but also in a safe and controlled way.

Sessions run similarly to the senior mat – we start with a warm up, sometimes a game, sometimes a series of exercises, adjusted to take account of the student’s development, then we move onto techniques, often some striking and defence drills.

Learning a martial art can improve a child's:

All students are taught in a way which meets their individual needs.

After the warm up we practice the full set of breakfalls, before moving onto the last half of the lesson, which is usually reserved for more techniques and syllabus work. We will occasionally end with a game designed to build essential skills such as balance, reactions, awareness, etc.

Children learn a modified version of the senior syllabus; with the more dangerous techniques such as chokes and neck locks removed. We also split the first few grades in two. This not only helps children learn the required techniques and achieve their next belts, it gives them a better sense of achievement and progression.
